Note

In the event of disputes between attorneys and their clients, there is the option, upon request, of out-of-court dispute resolution through the competent Cologne Bar Association as well as through the Mediation Office of the Federal Bar Association.

Furthermore, for financial disputes arising from the attorney-client relationship with a value of up to 50,000.00 euros, the Bar Association’s Mediation Office, located at Neue Grünstraße 17, 10179 Berlin, www.s-d-r.org, has jurisdiction.

Professional Liability Insurance

The professional liability insurance is provided by HDI Versicherungs AG, Financial Loss Liability Department, P.O. Box 13 03 23, 50407 Cologne. The geographical scope of the insurance coverage includes activities in the member states of the European Union and thus meets, at a minimum, the requirements of Section 51 of the Federal Lawyers’ Act (BRAO), Section 67 of the Tax Consultant Act (StBerG), and Sections 51 et seq. Regulation on the Implementation of the Provisions Concerning Tax Consultants, Tax Agents, and Tax Consultant Firms (DVStB), § 54 of the Auditors’ Code (WPO) in conjunction with the Regulation on Professional Liability Insurance for Auditors and Certified Public Accountants (WPBHV).

The insurance coverage does not extend to liability claims arising from the provision of advice or engagement with non-European law, nor to activities of attorneys before non-European courts.
